AT 7:00 am on October 20th teams from Market Express (ME) and Brewer-Hendley Oil Co. (BHOC) arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to board the bus to an undisclosed location, and gear up to participate in the annual HealthQuest’s Amazing Charity Challenge.
HealthQuest is a non-profit pharmacy that provides free prescription to residents of Union, Anson, Stanly, Lancaster and Chesterfield counties who cannot afford prescriptions for their chronic medical conditions. For the 5th year in a row, HeathQuest hosted its annual Amazing Charity Challenge where teams of 4 were invited to represent their organizations in a series of physical and mental challenges. The winner of the competition won a grand prize of $2,000 to go towards the charity of their choice.
Each year the challenge features different activities for the participants to compete in. This year challenges ranged from navigating through tires to racing canoes without paddles. ME and BHOC made up three of the fifteen teams that participated in this year’s charity challenge and finished the day in 6th, 11th, and 15th place.
One of the biggest plots twists this year was the bonus round bug that was offered in the food eating competition. One member from each team was asked to eat a water scorpion to get added points to their total bonus score. The winning team from the bonus round had the opportunity to win $500 to be split amongst team member. On the menu: Water Scorpion.
